Mr and Mrs
December, 2023
Santa's workshop was in full swing this year! My wife and I were celebrating our first Christmas together as a married couple, so I wanted to commemorate the milestone. I whipped up a fun little project - a unique ornament design with contrasting woods and leather string that stands out from your everyday laser cut ornaments found on Etsy.
Technical Details
Woods Used: Canary and Walnut
Bear Size: 5.75x3in
Finish: 220grit followed by hardwax oil (Rubio Monocoat)
Project Challenges and Lessons Learned:
I learned alot from the coaster project that I was able to apply here. Honestly, this project was pretty drama free. I had the photo editing process down and knew what to watch out for. I tested the image on a few different types of wood and canary just won without question. The way the wedding dress blended with the sunset colors was awesome. I wanted a contrasting wood for the sign and walnut was the obvious choice. The laser cutter made fast work of this project but it leaves burn marks and sharp edges. So after the laser cutting operation I went in by hand to clean everything up with an assortment of belt sanders, micro files, and sand paper. This gives a clean finished look. The wife loved it, and that is all that matters. Happy wife, happy life.
