Woodworking

April 2020 - Present

Starting woodworking was not something I had planned on. Like most people, I needed something "extra" to do during COVID lockdown to keep my brain from running away on me. I was living in a 1 bedroom apartment at the time with my then girlfriend so space to work and store tools/materials was very limited. I had to get really creative. I had to always be thinking about tool purchases with versatility as a priority. I had limited operating hours to avoid noise complaints. It was to say the least, a struggle.

It's easy to get overwhelmed after watching "DIY how to" videos on youtube. They all seem to have a garage, $10K+ worth of nice tools, and tons of experience. I had none of these things. I pushed the limits of what you could achieve in such an environment and besides one noise complaint (which was totally my fault) I think it was a success. This has turned into a more serious hobby over the last few years now that my now wife and I have moved into a small house and I am able to work on larger scale projects with access to more appropriate tools.
